The store also is already operating in Argentina, Chile, Mexico and Venezuela, will soon be available in other Latin American countries.
The addresses from www.blackberry.com / appworld or mobile.blackberry.com , BlackBerry owners can download applications to their phones. For now, the store has versions in English and Spanish, but Portuguese version should be ready by the end of 2009.
The store is organized into several categories such as games, entertainment, instant messaging, social networking, news, weather and productivity. To know which are the most popular applications, there is a section called "Top Downloads" while in the "Features" the site's editors select news and other recommended applications.
Applications can either be stored on memory cards and internal memory of the apparatus. The folder "My World" maintains a list of programs downloaded to the smartphone, making it easier to control than is in the unit.
For now, the available applications are all free, but the company plans to offer paid programs soon. "We are launching BlackBerry App World with a solid selection and look forward to working with our partners to offer applications that address the needs of our customers," said Jim Balsillie, one of the chief executive officers of RIM.
The store is available for BlackBerry smartphones with a trackball, trackpad or touch-sensitive touch screen, with software version 4.2 or later. Users must have a BlackBerry data plan activated to access the BlackBerry App World.
